LOVE the colours in this beautiful shot. I took this picture not too long ago at a house just down the street. Pure, natural beauty! It is important to take these moments to appreciate God's wonderful creation. We become so consumed by the complexities of everyday life sometimes we forget to appreciate the little things. It is hard to not feel joy when looking at beautiful pictures like this.
Over the summer I was working night shifts, but when I got home at 6:00am the way that the early morning sun hit my mom's flower bed highlighted their beauty so well. The beauty found in nature often makes me feel happy and satisfied with life. I guess that's why people put so much effort into art, it makes their lives feel fulfilled and joyful. Who wouldn't want that?
ReplyDeleteMichael, you know our grad student, Mark, who teaches about amphibians. He writes about cultivating "biophilia" - the innate connection of human beings to nature. He says that we will not protect what we do not love. Art is one of the few subjects (literature is another) where we can cultivate our sense of beauty and wonder in the world. Although that's not all there is to teaching art, I think it can be an important part. And learning to delight in beauty and to see it in everyday things is a talent that will make the classroom a more human and joyful place for both teachers and children. Thanks, Jesslyn, for sharing this so vividly with this photo, It makes me think of starting a collection of beautiful photos to share for a "photo of the day" routine. Would you be willing to let me use yours for that?
ReplyDeleteHi Willow!
ReplyDeleteYes of course you can use this photo :)
The colours in this picture are amazing. Just looking at this picture makes me happy! I love the colours at summer time, they just make you feel warm and happy. I can't say that winter colour gives me the same feeling.
