Inspiration for movement can come from a wide variety of places. Different events, emotions, people or places can inspire songs choices, costumes and the feeling of movement selected. I work with students every week creating pieces for them in all genres of dance. I come to each class with something in mind for them based on their individual talents. A lot of the time I seek inspiration from my students. It amazes me just how creative each individual is. I learn something new from them everyday. Each one of them is so extremely talented and I am fortunate enough to see examples of them expressing their own creativity through movement and photographs. This particular shot was taken by a young lady in my classes of one of her peers. Moments like this inspire me to move beyond my comfort zone and experiment with movement in all capacities. I hope to be the one who can push each of them to express themselves in a variety of ways and to always allow their individuality to show through.
You inspire me Jesslyn! Your dedication to your students is amazing to me :) I hope that one day, when life gets a little less crazy, I will start taking dance classes again. You've reminded me that it's never too late to learn a new skill.
ReplyDeleteIn the past year, my brother and I started two-stepping and swing dancing, we suddenly realized we knew a lot of the same moves. We discovered how much fun it is and it's given us something in common (which can be a challenge with a 5 year age gap). We learn moves as we see them and like to move as quick as we can even if it means double time! Our friends have shown an interest and we've taught them all we know. Now we have nights where we all get together and just dance our hearts out! There's no better way to shake off the stress of the week!
Hey Jess, awesome picture/post! Dancing really is a beautiful form of art!
